JULY 1969: SHARE YOUR STORY!
On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first people to land on the Moon, but this was not the only notable event to occur in the world in the 1960s. In the summer of 1969, babies were born, teenagers came of age, couples were married, sometimes breaking racial and cultural barriers, young people were protesting around the world, countries were reclaiming their independence from colonial powers, American and Vietnamese troops faced each other in Vietnam, and people were fighting for their civil rights...
Where were you and what were you doing in summer 1969? Tell us YOUR story! You can create a recording on your own by following these simple, step-by-step instructions.
Using the StoryCorps App (Android or Apple), we are collecting stories from people who remember where they were and what they were doing in July 1969 as part of our larger project to put the Moon Landing in its historical and cultural context.
Inputs are welcome from everyone, in any language, from all over the world! We also strongly encourage groups, such as veterans’ organizations, participants in social movements, and families, to participate.
If you are a group that would like help with recording through StoryCorps, please fill out this Google Form.
